Academic Year — Includes Summer (leading term), Fall of the first year, and Winter and Spring terms of the following year. For example, AY 2024-25 consists of Summer 2024, Fall 2024, Winter 2025, and Spring 2025.
Course Success Rate — All passing grades divided by all grades including non-passing & withdrawals. Ex: (A, B, C, P) ÷ (A, B, C, D, F, P, NP, I, W, EW, MW).
Course Retention Rate — All passing & non-passing grades divided by all passing, non-passing & withdrawal grades. Ex: (A, B, C, D, F, P, NP, I) ÷ (A, B, C, D, F, P, NP, I, W, EW, MW).
Cross-Hatching (or Hatching) — The diagonal stripe pattern used in heatmap cells to mark suppressed values (n < 10). Data exists for that group but is hidden to protect student privacy.
Enrollments — Duplicated count of enrolled students by term. (E.g., a student who takes three classes in the same term is counted three times.)
Headcount — Unduplicated count of students enrolled by term. (E.g., a student who takes three classes in the same term is counted only once.)
Modality — The format in which a course is delivered: In-Person (on campus), Online (Distance Education), or Hybrid (a blend of online and on-campus instruction).
Guided Pathway — A grouping of related programs and courses that organizes the curriculum into clear academic pathways toward degrees, certificates, and transfer.
Suppression — Cells representing fewer than ten enrollments are blanked out (shown as * or hatched) to protect student privacy. This may slightly reduce totals when small subgroups are combined.
Weighted Total — A summary rate computed by summing the numerator (e.g., successful enrollments) across all groups and dividing by the summed denominator (total enrollments) — not by averaging individual group rates. Larger groups have more influence on the result, which is the correct approach when group sizes differ.
